Troubleshooting for Common Irrigation Problems

Don’t let a minor inefficiency become a major landscape issue. Our troubleshooting guide offers professional insights into maintaining your system’s integrity. If these steps do not resolve your concern, our team is ready to provide an on-site system audit—combining 20+ years of expertise with a professional performance warranty to ensure your greenery remains lush and uninterrupted.

Possible Causes:

  • Clogged filters or nozzles
  • Water supply interruption
  • Broken or closed valves

Steps to Fix:

  1. Check Water Supply: Make sure the main water supply is turned on and there’s no interruption in service.
  2. Inspect Valves: Ensure that all valves are fully open and functioning correctly. Test the valve manually if needed.
  3. Clear Filters and Nozzles: Remove and clean any clogged filters or nozzles to ensure proper water flow.
  4. Check for Leaks: Inspect the system for any visible leaks along pipes or sprinkler heads.

Tip: Regularly clean filters and nozzles to maintain consistent water flow.

Possible Causes:

  • Leaks in pipes or sprinkler heads
  • Clogged filters or nozzles
  • Incorrect settings on the pressure regulator

Steps to Fix:

  1. Inspect for Leaks: Look for wet spots along the irrigation system that may indicate a leak. Repair any visible damage.
  2. Check Pressure Regulator: Ensure the pressure regulator is set correctly for your system. Adjust it if necessary.
  3. Clean Filters and Nozzles: Remove any debris blocking water flow and causing low pressure.

Tip: A quick pressure test with a gauge can help identify if pressure is the issue.

Possible Causes:

  • Faulty irrigation timer/controller
  • Broken wiring or electrical issues
  • Blocked or stuck solenoid valves

Steps to Fix:

  1. Check the Timer/Controller: Ensure the irrigation timer is programmed correctly and the settings match your intended schedule.
  2. Test the Electrical Components: Check if the wires are properly connected, and test the solenoid valve for electrical continuity.
  3. Inspect Solenoid Valves: Manually test the solenoid valve to check for blockages or mechanical failure.

Tip: If you’re unsure about the electrical connections, it’s best to call a technician.

Possible Causes:

  • Low water pressure
  • Damaged sprinkler heads
  • Blockages in the sprinkler head or piping

Steps to Fix:

  1. Check Water Pressure: Low pressure can prevent the sprinkler heads from functioning properly. Follow the steps for troubleshooting low water pressure.
  2. Inspect Sprinkler Heads: Ensure the sprinkler heads aren’t clogged or damaged. Replace any broken heads.
  3. Clear Blockages: Clean the sprinkler heads and check for any obstructions in the pipe leading to the head.

Tip: If heads aren’t popping up, the pressure may not be sufficient to push them out. Check the system’s overall pressure.

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect watering schedule
  • Misaligned sprinkler heads
  • Broken or malfunctioning timers

Steps to Fix:

  1. Adjust Timer Settings: Review the irrigation schedule and make sure it’s appropriate for the current weather conditions.
  2. Check for Misaligned Sprinklers: Ensure sprinkler heads are aligned correctly to cover the intended areas. Adjust as needed.
    Inspect for Leaks:
  3. Ensure no excess water is being wasted due to leaks in the system, leading to overwatering.

Tip: Use soil moisture sensors or a smart irrigation system to optimize watering schedules.

Possible Causes:

  • Air in the pipes
  • Pressure issues
  • Malfunctioning valves

Steps to Fix:

  1. Bleed the System: If air is trapped in the pipes, manually bleed the system by running it for a few minutes to release the air.
  2. Check for Pressure Issues: Review the pressure settings to ensure they are within the appropriate range for your system.
  3. Inspect Valves: Listen for unusual sounds coming from the valves. If necessary, replace faulty valves.

Tip: Strange noises are often an indication of a pressure imbalance, so check all components to resolve the issue.
